Staying home, along with other everyday precautions such as frequently washing your hands and social distancing, can help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Some may find it hard to stay inside or away from friends and family during this time. Luckily, technology has made it easier to keep in touch with loved ones. Reaching out to people you trust is one of the best ways to reduce anxiety, depression, loneliness and boredom during this time. You can utilize text messaging, phone calls, social media and Skype or FaceTime to connect with loved ones.
And, it's still ok to go outside. Fresh air can have a positive effect on your mental health. You can:
- Sit on your front porch
- Ride a bike or take a walk (keeping sure to stay six feet from others)
- Play with your kids in your yard
Parents should note that even though kids may have a lot of free time now, staying home does not include:
- Play dates or sleepovers with friends
- Going to the movies, mall or other recreational public places
The most important thing to remember is staying home can save lives and is an easy way for everyone to help slow the spread of COVID-19. To learn more about how to stay protected and how Mount Nittany Health is preparing and responding to COVID-19, visit mountnittany.org/coronavirus.
